DESCRIPTION: |
To assist the NYSDOT in
providing for scoping and preliminary design services for Stages I and
II of an Intermodal Freight Transportation Center facility in the Town
of Islip, Suffolk County. The Pilgrim Hospital is right off the LIRR
Main Line, adjacent to the Sagtikos State Parkway and just south of the
LIE. JAC Planning will provide support services regarding community
outreach for the preliminary design services for railroad track, highway
and bridge access for the development of the Intermodal Center (a
railroad/highway terminal transfer facility), including the preliminary
design of the Rail Terminal, and associated facility buildings required
at the Pilgrim Site for necessary operations of rail freight-yard
center.
The development of this facility will focus on
providing rail transportation services for Stage I - Bulk Rail Cars,
commodities moved over the existing LIRR system; and Stage II,
Trailer-on-Flatcar/Container-on-Flatcar (TOFC/COFC). TOFC/COFC movement
of containers at Pilgrim will require clearance improvements over LIRR
to the Pilgrim site.
