The County of Nassau hired STV, Inc. (prime) and
JAC Planning Corp. (as subconsultant for Public Involvement) to conduct
a Major Investment Study (MIS) of transportation options in the area
commonly referred to as the Nassau Hub. The Hub is a roughly
three-square mile area encompassing the central portion of the County,
and is generally defined as being bounded by Old Country Road to the
North, Hempstead Turnpike to the south, Clinton Road to the west and
Merrick Avenue to the east. Land use in the Hub is a mix of commercial,
recreational, cultural, educational, and, to a limited extent,
residential. Included within the Hub are regional shopping malls,
community and local shopping centers, office buildings/plazas,
industrial and warehousing facilities, the Hempstead Resource Recovery
Facility, military housing, Museum Row, active and passive parkland, two
colleges, the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and vacant land. The
Study will identify and evaluate transportation alternatives that would
effectively and efficiently improve access and mobility within the Hub.
JAC Planning Corp.’s primary role is public
involvement and agency coordination. JAC Planning’s responsibilities on
this project include the development of a Public and Government Agency
Involvement Plan that outlines the approach envisioned to solicit input
from individuals and groups to ensure that public dialogue occurs
throughout the MIS process and that multiple opportunities exist in the
outreach effort. Other tasks include:
 | Assist in compiling and maintaining a project
mailing list. |
 | Assist in the identification of stakeholders. |
 | Prepare meeting materials, including agendas,
handouts, and meeting minutes. |
 | Assist in the arrangements, logistics, and the
conducting of three Steering Committee Meetings and five Stakeholder
Committee Meetings. |
 | Prepare a record of responses to significant
public recommendations and concerns. |
